Marc Havican
President, Producer/Director
Marc is a little bit crazy. Okay, he’s really crazy – about sports, space, and models.
Growing up near the Johnson Space Center during the early days of human spaceflight, Marc had a front-row seat as history unfolded, watching television crews and filmmakers share the story of America’s space program with the world.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Houston School of Communication, Marc began his career as a video assistant in the NFL on coach Jerry Glanville’s Houston Oilers staff. He was also one of the first-ever NFL Instant Replay technicians, working Oiler games until the team moved to Nashville in 1997.
Marc left the Oilers to work for the local NBC affiliate KPRC-TV. In 1989, two of Marc’s passions – space flight and filmmaking – blended perfectly when landed his dream job as a producer/director at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. For nearly seven years he was immersed in telling the story of NASA and human spaceflight. He left NASA in 1995 to build Space City Films into the industry leader of aerospace film production.
When the National Football League returned to Houston in 2002, Marc helped the Houston Texans franchise build their NFL Instant Replay crew into one of the top units in the NFL. He has worked countless NFL playoff games and even has a Super Bowl under his belt.
When he’s not at an NFL game or traveling the nation shooting rockets and spaceships, Marc builds models, writes for Scale Auto and Amazing Figure Modeler magazines, and conducts seminars and demos at model shows around the country.

Alex D’Eath
Operations Manager
Want to know how many albums some obscure band recorded or what kind of music a local sports star likes? Just ask our Operations Manager!
Alex spent twelve years with the Houston-based record store chain Soundwaves, including eight years as the Manager of Information Systems, where he learned that organization is the key to getting the job done right.
As the Ops Manager for Space City Films, Alex organizes and manages everything from computer systems to cameras to the edit suite, and also handles all of our HD media on location. He’s our operational Go-To Guy, and he goes above and beyond to makes sure that everything works likes it is supposed to.
Al is the father of three precocious young boys and husband of one very active wife and he has found that organization and scheduling is important on the home front as well. Some people might describe him as being somewhat, um, “retentive”, but in truth he just likes to know where everything is at all times.
A rabid sports fan, Alex loves baseball, basketball, and was on the sidelines manning the Instant Replay field booth for Super Bowl XXXVIII.
When it comes to keeping your project organized and perfectly in tune, no one does a better job than Alex.
Phil Sexton
Editor, Motion Graphics Lead
Phil is a big dude – his stature, his smile, and his personality. He’s also a big dude in the edit suite.
There is more to good editing than just stacking shots and adding dissolves. A great editor has an artistic eye, a sense of rhythm, and the ability to tell the story. When it comes to post production and motion graphics design, Phil has the chops.
An incredibly talented, award-winning editor, Phil brings passion, dedication, persistence, and a willingness to go above and beyond for all of our clients, large or small. Phil and Space City Films go together like peanut butter and jelly. Like cookies and milk. Like peaches and cream. Like . . . well, you get the idea.
After graduating from Howard University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications in 2001, Phil moved to Los Angeles and worked for NBC and DreamWorks. He immersed himself into music production and produced a song for a major motion picture from Lions Gate Films, The Cookout.
Phil returned to Texas in 2004 and enrolled in the Art Institute of Houston to learn production and editing. He graduated with honors with a degree in Interactive Media in 2008, when we were lucky enough to snag the big man and his big talents. From graphic design and animation to editing and effects, Phil can make even the smallest project look huge.
Mike Hughes
Director of Photography
Interested in current events, international relations, and geo-political machinations?
Neither are we, but Mike sure is. Ask him a question over sushi and beer and prepare to be entertained. And enthralled. And educated.
How does he know all that stuff, anyway?
Mike is an avid scuba diver and world traveler, speaks enough Spanish and Russian to get into and out of trouble, and is a voracious reader of world histories, biographies and political commentaries, particularly those that pertain to 20th Century Europe. He is married to a Siberian Princess (really!), has two children – Boris and Natasha – and a pet squirrel named Rocky. He likes lizards, because they are quiet – and the color purple.
Mike holds a BS in Radio-Television-Film from the University of Texas and an MBA from the University of Houston. He started his career in Austin before moving to New York City, where he landed a job that would change his life forever, traveling to the Soviet Union to shoot in what were to become the countries of Russia, Ukraine and Moldova.
While in Russia, he met his bride-to-be, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Mike moved to Houston in the summer of 1994, armed with phone numbers and NYC swagger, and has established a reputation as a reliable, skilled, and talented Director of Photography.

Austin Havican
Writer/Photographer
Austin was attending Clear Creek High School when he and a couple of buddies strapped a video camera to the sideview mirror of a car and shot an action sequence for a short film just for the heck of it. The results were spectacular and resulted in a cult following at CCHS and among Austin’s friends for their short films.
Austin is an accomplished photographer, web designer, writer, and illustrator. With a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Houston and a Teaching Certification from the State of Texas, Austin taught English, Journalism, Photography, and Video Production to high school students in San Antonio before returning to Houston to work full time with Space City Films.
As our new script writer and second camera, Austin is quickly learning all aspects of the production process; everything from concept to completed video. He assists with every shoot to both gain experience on set and offer his own creative ideas and perspective.
